Sweet Repeat? Lady Chiefs headed back to state

LITTLE RIVER - So far it has been new coach, same result for the North Myrtle Beach Lady Chief volleyball program. After defeating Airport three sets to none on Wednesday night, the team is headed back to Columbia for the second straight year to play for another state championship.

The team won its first ever just last year under the supervision of head coach Estelle Barentine. After she stepped down, former Lady Chief Erica Allman took over and has helped take the team to a number one ranking in Class 3A and a second straight Lower State championship. The Lady Chiefs will face Pickens High School, the Upper State champion which beat Chapin on Wednesday.

North Myrtle Beach will be the lone area team in Columbia on Saturday. Waccamaw fell to Bishop England in the 2A Lower State title match three sets to none, and Johnsonville got swept by Branchville in the 1A Lower State Championship.
