MBPD seeking warrants after early morning assault, crash

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – The Myrtle Beach Police Department is seeking warrants for a male in connection to an incident that occurred around 3:30 a.m. in Myrtle Beach Monday morning.

Captain Knipes with the MBPD said an intoxicated male called his girlfriend as he was leaving the Gold Club, and threatened to shoot her. When he arrived at her house on Settler's Drive, he gained entry and assaulted her.

As officers arrived, the suspect fled the scene in a black Mercury Sedan. He then crashed into a telephone pole a few minutes later at 44th Avenue North and Little River Road. Following the crash, a single shot was heard from the immediate area.

When officers arrived, the vehicle was there but the driver fled. A perimeter was set up and K-9 was called out, but attempts to track the driver were unsuccessful.

Captain Knipes said the driver has been identified, and warrants will be obtained for Criminal Domestic Violence and multiple traffic-related offenses.
