WMBF News takes home two RTDNAC journalism awards

CHARLOTTE, NC (WMBF) – WMBF News took home two awards at the annual Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas awards Saturday.

WMBF News Assistant Chief Photographer Michael Walter won First Place in the Best Photography, Division II award category.

WMBF News also won the First Place Special Report award in Division II for "Rebuild, Recover, Renew," an hour-long special about the devastating fire at the Windsor Green complex in Carolina Forest that destroyed 26 buildings and dozens of apartments. The special was produced by WMBF News Executive Producer Catherine Franklin, and helped raise over $2,700 for victims of the fire.

The 2013 awards competition recognized "the best of television, radio, website and collegiate work from July 2, 2012 through June 30, 2013," according to the RTDNAC website.

The awards luncheon was sponsored by CNNNewSource and the Associated Press, and was held at The Speedway Club at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Charlotte, North Carolina.
