One dead after motorcycle accident near Pawleys Island

GEORGETOWN, SC (WMBF) – A Myrtle Beach man was killed in a motorcycle accident near Pawleys Island has turned deadly, officials confirmed.

Myrtle Beach resident 28-year-old Christopher Kirwin was identified by the Georgetown County Coroner's Office as the driver killed.

Kirwin died from his injuries after being transported to a nearby hospital, said Georgetown County Coroner Kenny Johnson.

The accident on Ocean Highway was first reported at about 7:24 a.m. Thursday by the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Cpl. Sonny Collins said a 2006 Buick crossing Highway 17 from Sandy Island Road failed to yield to the motorcycle Mr. Kirwin was driving.

Kirwin was wearing a helmet.

No charges have been filed, but Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash.
