FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) – The American Heart Association plans to use money from at $10,000 grant to launch an educational Heart Healthy Cooking Series in companies and after school at the Boys and Girls Club in Florence.
The series will take place once a month, for ten months, offering heart healthy menus, snack ideas, substitutions and demonstrations. They are aiming to teach high-risk, highly populated companies throughout the Pee Dee, and in partnership with the Boys and Girls Club.
The American Heart Association estimates approximately 1,000 people will be served and nearly 5,000 will benefit from the series.
"Our hope is to teach folks in the Pee Dee how easy it is to cook healthy," says Sheryl Love, Senior Director of Development at the American Heart Association. "Many health issues related to heart disease and stroke, such as high blood pressure and diabetes, are influenced by what we eat."
