MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A young man is facing criminal domestic violence charges after an assault over text messages.

A Myrtle Beach Police report states the fight that landed 22-year-old Jacob Michael East behind bars began just before midnight Saturday.

His girlfriend got upset with him when she thought he was texting another woman. When their verbal dispute turned physical, the report states East pushed the woman down and caused her to hit her face.

The woman ran to the front desk of the Hurl Rock Motel for help, but when East came downstairs she panicked, then ran onto the beach.

Police officers located East just a few streets away and took him into custody. He is charged with criminal domestic violence.
