FLORENCE COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – An inmate being transported to a medical facility in Florence managed to get away, and was found in an abandoned house after a search.
Marlboro County deputies were escorting the inmate to a facility on East Palmetto Street Friday morning, according to Lt. Compton with Florence City Police. When a deputy was taking the inmate inside, he got away and began running towards Hope Health, a mental health facility.
Florence City Police and Florence County Sheriff's Office were notified and started to search the area. A Florence officer found the inmate in an abandoned house on Ravenel Street in Florence.
The inmate, 30-year-old Derrick Dupree, was booked into the Florence County Detention Center and charged with escape.
