Anticipating a busy week at MYR

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Myrtle Beach International Airport leaders are expecting a busy travel week, since many people will be traveling south from Canada to celebrate their Thanksgiving holiday, and Coastal Carolina University students will be enjoying their fall break.

MYR Marketing Director Kirk Lovell said they don't know an exact amount, but leaders are planning on a spike in airport travel numbers.

"Obviously the transition from the summer peak going into the shoulder golf season we are seeing more golfers," explained Lovell. "WestJet ends service at the end of the month. Porter started their service at the beginning of the month, and a lot of capacity flying into Canada and Myrtle Beach."

A WestJet representative said due to, "competitive reasons, we do not share load factors or guest numbers. We will have our regularly scheduled two flights this week and every week until our seasonal service ends at the end of this month."

Airport leaders recommend those who will be using MYR this week to allow for plenty of time to park and check in. Also before getting to the airport, check to make sure the flight isn't canceled or delayed through the travelers' specific airline carrier.

Those traveling, like Santino Mastromatto, said even though it might not look like a ton of people are flying through MYR, looks can be deceiving, "it doesn't look like it, but when you go online you see all the flights and they're booked solid."

Mastromatto added that even though MYR might be busy this week it's still an easier airport to get in and out of than the others he has traveled through.
