Conway man wanted for fatal DUI crash

CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - Wilted flowers and a wooden cross with the name Oscar Alonzo are near the scene where the 26-year-old Conway man lost his life. Alonzo died the morning of June 22, 2013 after police say the driver he was riding with lost control due to too much alcohol in his system.

That driver, 33-year-old Jesus Molina Castelan, is wanted by the Horry County Sheriff's Office for failure to appear in court on that DUI charge.

According to the police report, a witness saw the 2000 Volkswagen Jetta driven by Castelan on Highway 378 veer off the road and into a ditch. The report says the car flipped several times before finally coming to a stop and hitting a sign. Castelan had to be extricated from the vehicle while Alonzo was ejected from the car and died near a utility post his body hit.

Both men lived less than a mile away on Nixon Avenue in Conway. Neighbors say the two were cousins and remember them well.

"I was on my way to work when I saw the car right by the Wilco Hess flipped over, and I was thinking whoa I hope they are ok. It wasn't until about a week later that I learned it was my neighbor," said Richard Blevins.

After Castelan was taken to Grand Strand Regional Hospital and released he was arrested for DUI resulting in a fatality; authorities say he never showed up for court.

If you have any idea where Castelan might be you are urged to contact the Horry County Sheriff's Office.
