Internet predator pleads guilty, gets 5 years in jail

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A man charged with criminal solicitation of a minor and other crimes has pleaded guilty and been sentenced to jail time.

Ryan Sean Bowlen pleaded guilty to one count of criminal solicitation of a minor and one count of attempted dissemination of obscene material to a person under 18 years of age on Thursday, October 3.

Those charges stem from the investigation launched after Bowlen posted an ad on Craigslist.com soliciting sex from a minor child. Using emails and text messages, Bowlen sent sexual photos to someone he believed was 14 years old.

Weeks later, when Bowlen traveled to meet the alleged minor, he was arrested. As a condition of his arrest, he forfeited the computer he used.

For each crime Mr. Bowlen plead guilty to, he was sentenced to ten years in prison. Those sentences were suspended to five years to be served concurrently, followed by three years probation.

Once Bowlen is released, he will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
