MARION COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Captain Jackie Yates with the Marion City Fire Department said firefighters responded to a residential structure fire Sunday morning.

The initial call came into the fire station around 8:45 a.m., and firefighters arrived at a residence on Cooper Street in the City of Marion shortly after. Crews were able to get the fire under control within minutes, but the abandoned residence was a total loss.

Captain Yates said there was heavy smoke and flames showing from the roof when crews arrived, and the fire appears to have started in the front left side of the residence.

At this point, it is too early to tell the cause of the fire, but Captain Yates did say the residence did not have power turned on, which rules out some possibilities.

None of the firefighters that responded received injuries from the fire.
