Timmonsville High teacher arrested for allegedly assaulting student

TIMMONSVILLE, SC (WMBF) – A teacher at Timmonsville High School has been arrested after an alleged assault on a student on Monday.

Richard Williams, 46, was arrested by Florence County Sheriff's Office investigators on Monday and charged with Assault and Battery, third degree, according to a news release from FCSO spokesperson Captain Michael Nunn. The misdemeanor charge carries a penalty of up to 30 days in jail, a fine of up to $500, or both.

According to investigators, Williams is alleged to have assaulted a student after a "verbal altercation."

Williams was released from Florence County Detention Center on a personal recognizance bond.
