A month after adult bill passes, no changes

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - It's been almost a month since Horry County Council passed sweeping reforms on adult entertainment, but little seems to have changed.

"There's some lenience to allow for compliance," said Horry County spokeswoman Lisa Bourcier.

Bourcier says the law went into effect immediately after passing the council, but businesses were given 90 days from its passing to get in line with the new law.

The two laws voted through at the beginning of September dictate where an adult business can be located, and what can happen inside that business. All adult clubs in the county right now are zoned as restaurant nightclubs, which have different guidelines for what employees can wear while on the job.

If the business is near a church or neighborhood and chooses to operate as a strip club or adult oriented club, it will have to move. If it chooses to operate as a nightclub, it will have stricter regulations, but will not have to change locations.

"It's up to the businesses," Bourcier said.

With a little over sixty days left in the leniency period, no businesses have changed locations. Employees at Tiffany's Cabaret said they hadn't heard anything about changes to the business, and an employee at another adult business said they wouldn't be surprised to find their employer closed down after the grace period.
