More houses are being bought in Florence County

Posted: Updated:

FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) - A lot of people are taking advantage of lower interest rates and prices, buying and building more middle class homes in Florence County.

"We're really tickled that we have steady demand and prices are still remarkable," Jean Leatherman, ERA Leatherman Realty.

Real-estate agent Jean Leatherman says homes priced under $300,000 are in demand in Florence County.

"Interest rates are at a great value and we just need for buyers to have the confidence," said Leatherman.

Leatherman says the market is looking so promising – many real-estate agents that were forced out of the business a few years back are now returning.

"Now we do see people re-entering; they're seeing there are opportunities to sell real estate and it's a great career," said Leatherman.

According to the Association of Realtors - nationwide this is the time of year when home prices tend to drop, because this is considered off season for buying homes.

Today as I was checking the new neighborhoods developing in the area, a home mold removal expert said the housing market turn around is keeping him busy.

"We're getting a lot of calls from real-estate companies for relocations and a lot of air duct cleaning and mold removal because they have been sitting dormant," said Casey Cole.

Casey Cole says a lot of agents are now selling homes that have been sitting on the market for a long time.

And in addition to homes being snatched off the market at lower prices- homes are being built right here in Florence at a lower cost per square foot.
