Gallon of gas below $3 at some Grand Strand stations

Posted: Updated:

SOCASTEE, SC (WMBF) - Prices at the pump are below the $3 mark at only a few locations around the Grand Strand.

Most of them are in Surfside Beach along Highway 544 between Highway 17 business and Highway 707. The cheapest gas was $2.97 at the Turtle Market on Highway 707 in Socastee and $2.97 at the Wilco Hess on Highway 707.

Industry experts say there are a number of reasons why prices are creeping down. AAA says supply is down, and that prices typically go down in the fall.

The owner of the Turtle Market in Socastee, Edmund Watkins, says gas stations in the area all get their gas from the same supplier out of Fayetteville, NC and the rack price is going down. He says stations are likely passing the savings on to their customers.

"I don't even worry about what it comes in at. I just worry about what my competition is doing, and that's how I set my prices," says Watkins.
