Horry County testing new emergency alert system Monday

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Horry County will conduct a test of the new CodeRED alert system Monday morning at 10 am.

The new service will quickly notify the public about fires, chemical spills, evacuations, lockdowns, downed power lines, missing people, natural disasters, abductions, bomb threats, and other emergencies, according to a Facebook post from Horry County Fire Rescue.

Calls made through CodeRED system can be targeted to a specific geographic area for localized messaging. The system also reports who did not receive a call, so they can be contacted by other means.
