HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Two suspects have been arrested and charged after vehicle pursuit led to a car crash and shootout with a trooper on Highway 22 north of Conway Saturday night.

The trooper was not hit by the suspect, who fled after wrecking his vehicle, according to a Facebook post from the Horry County Sheriff's Office. The report from Horry County Sheriff's Office said a South Carolina Highway Patrol trooper attempted to stop 20-year-old Richard Cochran for a traffic violation at about 6:10 p.m. Cochran allegedly refused to stop for blue lights and the siren and continued driving at a high speed on Highway 22 southbound.

Cochran then fired two shots at the trooper, striking the hood of his vehicle where bullets went through the windshield, barely missing the trooper, according to the report. Cochran's vehicle then went off the right side of the roadway into a ditch, where he fired two more shots at the trooper, missing the vehicle. Cochran fled the vehicle and ran into the woods where Horry County Police Department and SLED dog teams searched.

A female passenger, later identified as 33-year-old Shannon Marie Keiser of Conway, also exited the vehicle and attempted to flee, but was taken into custody.

Cochran was eventually located and arrested. He was transported and remains in J. Reuben Long Detention Center and has been charged with: attempted murder, possession of a weapon during violent crime, resisting arrest with a deadly weapon, unlawful carrying of a pistol, and failure to stop for a blue light.

Keiser is also at J. Reuben Long Detention Center, and has been charged with obstructing justice.

The J. Reuben Long Detention Center website says Cochran was arrested on January 13, 2013 for two charges of larceny under $2,000, failure to appear and assault while resisting arrest/assault on a police officer. The two larceny charges and failure to appear charge were disposed.

Highway 22 remained closed near Highway 319 Saturday night after South Carolina Highway Patrol, Horry County Police Department SWAT, HCSO deputies, and other officers searched for Cochran for several hours.
