SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Spartanburg Public Safety officer has been charged after an incident where shots were fired early Friday evening.

The former officer, Alvin Anderson, 25, was charged with discharging a weapon into a dwelling while he was off-duty, according to the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office. Anderson was not in uniform but did use his police issued service weapon.

A spokesman for Spartanburg Public Safety said Anderson was fired after they learned about the incident.

Anderson was charged in connection with an incident where shots were fired through the front door of a man's house, deputies said.

They said Anderson went to the home looking for his girlfriend. He used a cell phone tracker to find her at Mark James' home, according to deputies.

A deputy report says Anderson was pounding on James' door and yelling his name early Friday morning. The report said a shot was then fired through the front door of the victim's house, hitting the living room wall.

Anderson was released on a $20,000 bond Friday evening. He declined to comment on the incident, but Master Deputy Kevin Bobo with the sheriff's office said Anderson confessed to the incident. Anderson told deputies as he was pounding on the door to the home with his service weapon in hand, it accidentally went off.

"This matter is extremely disappointing, but I am grateful that no one was seriously injured or there was not a loss of life," said Col. Jennifer Kindall of Spartanburg Public Safety.
