Middle school student booked for attempted armed robbery

Posted: Updated:

HEMINGWAY, SC (WMBF) - A teen student is in hot water with authorities after two of his peers claim he tried to rob them in a middle school locker room.

"[He] was clearly shaken up and stated that he thought the gun was real," a Georgetown County Sheriff's Deputy noted in his report on the incident at Carvers Bay Middle School on Sept. 10.

The 12-year-old and 13-year-old students who fell victim to a 14-year-old male student were both in the school's locker room after school when an apparent gun was pressed against their heads, and the boy asked for their money.

A teacher who realized what had happened took that student and his backpack to the school's assistant principal. Inside his bag, they located a pellet gun.

The teen student was taken into custody and charged with having a weapon on school property and attempted armed robbery. He was taken to the Georgetown County Detention Center to be transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice.

Because of the teen's age, his name has not been released.
