Horry County finally has new rules for adult businesses and those businesses now have 90 days to adhere to the new guidelines.
It's about time. With the exception of Councilmen Carl Schwartzkopf and Harold Worley a majority of the council voted in favor of the new rules. Implementing these new guidelines now was necessary for a lot of reasons, most urgently because of a legal battle with a group that wants to put in a new strip club on Restaurant Row.
I'm sure some of the adult clubs will go to court to fight the new regulations, but this time the county handled the situation in the right way and should prevail. These new guidelines are similar to those put in place in many communities across the country. And they have held up against many legal challenges.
The council members who voted in favor of the new regulations had to make a tough decision that could cost the county a lot of money in legal fees. But sometimes the easiest or less costly decision isn't the best decision. In this case, the majority of council made the wise choice.
