CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

A North Charleston mother has been arrested after her baby was found suffering from several broken ribs at MUSC's Children's Hospital.

The North Charleston Police Department charged 23-year-old Shellie Doctor of North Charleston with ill treatment of a child, according to jail records.

According to a police report, officers were called to the hospital on Aug. 22, where a social services worker said a boy was injured sometime between July 31 and Aug. 21.  Police say the boy was three to four weeks old at the time of the incident.

The police said DSS implemented a safety plan for the child.

Doctor was arrested late Wednesday.  She was issued a $7,500 bond during a hearing Thursday morning.
