FLORENCE COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – The West Florence Fire Department and the City of Florence Fire Department crews were on the scene of a semi-truck fire on I-95 at I-20 Wednesday morning.

Around 9 a.m. Wednesday morning an 18-wheeler traveling north on I-95 in Florence County left the roadway and caught on fire while exiting onto I-20 eastbound. A fuel tank separated from the semi and caused a grass fire in the median.

West Florence Fire Department says 150 gallons of diesel fuel was also spilled from the semi and DEHEC has responded to the spill.

South Carolina Highway Patrol Cpl. Sonny Collins says the driver of the truck was taking the ramp too fast and lost control. The driver was charged with driving too fast for conditions.
