Line of storms leaves fallen trees, power lines

Posted: Updated:

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A fallen tree has knocked down a power line near the Coastal Grand Mall in Myrtle Beach, and police expect the area to be a traffic hazard through the afternoon.

Myrtle Beach Police Capt. Knipes said driver should expect some traffic delays in the area of Pine Island Road and Highway 17 Bypass Tuesday afternoon.

A tree fell on a power line, and Santee Cooper has been notified. There are several fire and police crews on the scene, and they advise that you steer clear of that area for now.

Conway Police sent NIXLE alerts asking drivers to AVOID 4th Avenue and Janette Street where a downed power line had fallen in the roadway, and to AVOID Hwy 378 at El Bethel Road due to a malfunctioning traffic light.

The SC Department of Transportation says the traffic light at the intersection of Highway 17 Bypass with Harrelson Boulevard is out, as well as the traffic signal at Highway 17 Bypass and 21st Avenue North.

Midway Fire Rescue also reports that power lines have fallen on Crooked Oak and Sweetgum in the Litchfield Country Club area.

There were also power lines in the roadway on Bay Road near Bazen Road in Florence County.
