Store clerk cited for display of sick turtles

Posted: Updated:

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A Myrtle Beach store clerk has been cited after police found sick turtles for sale inside.

In a police report, Myrtle Beach officers detailed the living conditions of the turtles seized from the Palms Beach and Surf Saturday morning. The 34 baby pond slider turtles were living in an uncovered, 10 gallon aquarium with no lighting or radiant heat. They were all less then three inches in length, and most were covered in a fungus.

Police seized all the animals and supplies that would accompany the sale of those animals.

"The turtles were transported to Alligator Adventure for immediate housing and care," the report states.

Though the owner wasn't in the store at the time, police have sought warrants and issued a citation for the sell and exhibition of wild animals to the store clerk.
