Bennettsville man indicted on child pornography charges

Posted: Updated:

COLUMBIA, SC (WMBF) – A 66-year-old Bennettsville man was indicted by a federal grand jury Tuesday on child pornography charges.

The case was investigated by agents of the U.S. Postal Service, and court documents allege that in 2011, 66-year-old Freddie Green knowingly attempted to receive child pornography that had been mailed, shipped, and transported by any means, including by computer.

The grand jury further charged that on August 3, 2011, Green knowingly possessed VHS tapes, books, magazines, pictures and other materials containing child pornography images at his home in Bennettsville.

Green was charged with attempted receipt of child pornography and possession of child pornography, and if convicted, could receive a sentence of up to 20 years imprisonment.

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a national initiative launched in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
