Coroner identifies pedestrian killed in crash on Hwy 501

CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - The county coroner has identified the pedestrian killed while walking on Highway 501 Thursday night.

Frederick G. Steele, 78, was hit and killed in a crash that occurred at 5:57 p.m. on Highway 501 at Burning Ridge Road. 

SCHP Corporal Sonny Collins said Steele was walking north in the southbound lanes of Highway 501 when he was struck by a 2005 Dodge Caravan and died.

No charges will be filed since the pedestrian was determined to be at fault.

Steele had an identification card from Nevada, but was listed as homeless. The Coroner's Office is looking for any family members to reach out to them.
