MYRTLE BEACH (WMBF) - The Myrtle Beach Pelicans (74-54, 34-25), Class-A Advanced affiliates of the Texas Rangers, used three pitchers to blank the Salem Red Sox 5-0 Wednesday  in front of 3,255 fans at TicketReturn.com Field. The Pelicans snapped a four-game losing streak and lead the Red Sox by 1.5 games in the southern division heading into play Thursday.

Alec Asher (9-7) hurled five scoreless innings to get the win, scattering just two hits. The right-hander walked two, fanned six and hasn't given up an earned run in his last three starts. He has won Carolina League Pitcher of the Week two straight weeks. William Cuevas (7-8) was saddled with the loss, allowing five runs on six hits over four innings.

Tyler Smith and Michael Zouzalik helped complete the team's seventh shutout win of the season. Smith, in his Carolina League debut, fired three scoreless innings with six strikeouts. He struck out the side in the sixth and eighth innings. Zouzalik got the final three outs in the ninth inning in a non-save situation.

Drew Robinson paced the offense, finishing 2-for-4 with three RBIs, all coming on a three-run inside-the-park home run in the third inning. It is the Pelicans second inside-the-park home run of the season, both coming against the Red Sox.

The Pelicans added two runs in the fourth inning, the first of which came on a solo home run from first baseman Joe Maloney. After a Royce Bolinger double, the Pelicans got another run on an Odubel Herrera RBI single.
