Expenses, revenues increase in 2013 bike rallies

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Horry County has released the After Action Report for the 2013 spring bike rallies showing an increase in both revenues and expenses.

In 2012, the report shows the rallies generated approximately $74,000 in revenue. In 2013, that total increased to $96,000.

These revenues are from vendors permitted by the county to operate during the rallies. The report notes that calculating the actual revenues from sales, taxes, and other nearby venues that benefit from the bikers' presence during this time period would be nearly impossible because you cannot differentiate between the bikers, tourists and locals.

Expenses also increased this year. The direct expenses, which are mostly paid as overtime to emergency personnel, totaled $243,820. Indirect expenses cost $42,609, for a total of $286,430 for this year's rallies.

Interestingly, the report states that even though there were new venues permitted this year, there were no new complaints.
