2013 Pigskin Preview: Christian Academy Saints

MYRTLE BEACH - This summer, Marty Williams is feeling right back at home. The longtime football coach of the Grand Strand will be back out on a high school field on Fridays this fall, with 24 kids who are joining the sport for the first time.

"This is in my blood, I've been doing this a long time," explained Williams. It's really my passion is training young men through the game of football, and training them to become men of honor."

This is the first year of football for the Myrtle Beach Christian Academy, and it is a learning process for everyone involved.

"It's a new experience for me," said senior defensive tackle/tight end Garrett Richards. "I've never really played football, never been a part of it. But it feels good to be a part of it and to be able to say that I play football."

None of the players have been a part of a football team in the past, so it is a new journey for the school that the players look forward to embarking on together,

"It's a lot of fun once you get to know the game, once you get everyone in the right position," said Richards. "And once everyone is doing their job it's just fun to get out here and play football."

For now, this year an 8-man league and an abbreviated schedule is just a building block of things to come.

"It's a work in progress, but I think it's a foundation for what can be a really good football program in the future," said Williams.
