Planning Dept. shuts down club for alleged adult entertainment

FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) – A social club in Florence was shut down Tuesday because it was allegedly operating as an adult entertainment facility against county zoning codes, officials confirmed.

The Beaver Lodge was closed after a concerned citizen called the Florence County Planning Department about sexual activity going on inside the building, according to Shawn Brashear, a Florence County code official.

The Planning Department visited the club's website and then shut the place down, Brashear said. According to investigators, "special activity" was going on inside the building.

The Beaver Lodge's website states: "This club is organized to provide a safe, comfortable atmosphere where our members may meet, engage in a variety of activities, and enjoy each others [sic] company."

The Beaver Lodge is operated by "The Benevolent Order Of Beavers" a non-profit organization, according to the club's website.

Investigators say the social club was operating as an adult entertainment facility within 1000 feet of a church or school, which is illegal, Brashear said.

No alcohol was served during operational hours – the website states the club is BYOB.

The Beaver Lodge will be closed until it is brought within zoning codes, Brashear said.
