Memorials set for plane crash victims

CONWAY, SC (WMBF) – Memorial services for the men and teenager who died in the tragic plane crash in Conway last weekend have been set.

The plane crashed around 1 p.m. Saturday on Dunn Shortcut Road in Conway, near the Wood Creek Subdivision.

According to Goldfinch Funeral Homes' website, the memorial service for James W. Major, Jr., 39, and the pilot of the plane, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel. The obituary says Major enjoyed a number of hobbies including flying airplanes, scuba diving, spear fishing and boating.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2 p.m. Wednesday. Memorials may be sent to Boston Terrier Rescue of SC at 11 Dogwood Glen Court, North Augusta, SC 29860.

The Goldfinch Funeral Homes' website says the memorial for Kenneth J. Piuma will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday August 8, at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel. His obituary says Ken enjoyed hunting, the outdoors and was the kind of guy that didn't fear anything, but most of all "he will be remembered for his love and devotion to his daughter".

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association at 2090 Executive Hall Rd. Suite 130, Charleston, SC 29407, or an animal rescue group.

There will be a memorial service at St. James High School for Donald Becker, 16-years-old. The service will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday, August 8. St. James High School Principal Vann Pennell said, "One of the greatest traits is being concerned for others before yourself. That is a great picture I have of Donnie. Always concerned about friends, buddies, others before himself. "
