DARLINGTON, SC (WMBF) – The two suspects in two bank robberies in the Pee Dee are back in the Darlington after being arrested and extradited from New Jersey.

Michael Edward Monaghan, 28 of Naples, FL, is believed to have successfully robbed the TD Bank in Florence on July 31, shortly after the attempted robbery of the Bank of America in Darlington.

The Carneys Point Police Department in New Jersey contacted Darlington City Police Dept. on Friday, August 2 to inform them of the arrest of Monaghan and 21-year-old David Allen Montes Sabula, who police believe drove the getaway vehicle.

The two men were extradited without incident and were arraigned at the Darlington City Police Department Friday morning. Both were charged with bank robbery. If convicted, they could face a 30-year jail sentence.

These men were arrested after police in New Jersey spotted the vehicle, which was entered in the National Crime Information Center after the two incidents in the Pee Dee.

Police say Monaghan tried to rob the Bank of America in Darlington on Wednesday, July 31 by sliding a bank teller a note demanding cash. The teller fainted after getting the note, and Monaghan ran out of the bank without getting any money.

About 45 minutes later, Florence Police say Monaghan robbed the TD Bank on Dozier Boulevard. Both Florence and Darlington investigators say Monaghan didn't use any weapons, but he should still be considered dangerous.

His description was distributed to police nationwide, because Darlington and Florence authorities believed he and an accomplice might head north.
