CHERAW, SC (WMBF) – The man suspected of robbing a bank in Cheraw on August 1 has been taken into custody in North Carolina.

The man robbed the First Citizens Bank in Cheraw that Thursday morning, an official confirmed.

This was the third bank robbery or attempted bank robbery in the Pee Dee in two days, but officials say it is not connected to the bank robbery in Florence and an attempted robbery in Darlington a day earlier. The suspects in those two robberies have since been captured in New Jersey, officials confirmed.

Cheraw Police Chief Jay Brooks said the suspect entered the First Citizens Bank on Market Street and handed the teller a note demanding cash. He was given some money, then he ran out of the building.

A police K-9 tracked his scent for about half a block down the street and stopped, indicating that he may have gotten into a vehicle, Chief Brooks said. No weapon was seen during the robbery.

After obtaining warrants, Chief Brooks said Frank Lee Mikesha was arrested in the Fayetteville area.

When extradited back to South Carolina, he will be charged with strong armed robbery of a bank.
