MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A vigil was held Monday night for the international student who died after being struck by a bus in Myrtle Beach.

The candlelight vigil for Olha Marchuk, a 20-year-old student from Ukraine, was held at 8:30 p.m. near the Wonderworks at Broadway at the Beach, according to a Facebook post by the group "Myrtle Beach J1 Students."

At about 10 a.m. on July 31, a Coast RTA bus traveling south on Kings Highway turned right onto Ninth Avenue North. Marchuk was traveling south on Kings Highway on her bike, said Captain David Knipes with the Myrtle Beach Police Department.

Marchuk went through the intersection while the light was green, and the bus collided with her as it turned onto Ninth Avenue North, Captain Knipes said.

She was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries, where she later died. Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard said Marchuk was an international student from Ukraine. She died from multiple instances of trauma.

No charges have been filed at this time, and the investigation continues. It is not known if the bicyclist was on the sidewalk or the roadway.
