Horry County Schools encourage online registration

HORRYCOUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Parents and students can avoid the lines this year by registering online for the upcoming school year. This is the first year the Horry County School District used the new online program for all grade levels.

According to HCSD, a little more than half of students are now registered.

The official district-wide registration will be held at each school in the HorryCounty School District on August 1 between 7:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m., but returning and new students can use the new system register online here:

Required paperwork and records can be dropped off during business hours or mailed, district officials say. Those who complete the online registration and send the required documents to the school  may not need to attend registration on August 1.

There are some exceptions. Horry County School District spokeswoman Teal Britton says so far, the most common question parents have after completing the online registration, is whether they still need to attend the open registration on August 1. Britton says  that will depend on the school. She recommends checking in with children's schools to know for sure.

This time next year the district hopes registration numbers are much higher  because  the earlier it's taken care of, the better.

"Go ahead and register so that it helps us with an accurate count of teachers on the first day of school, and getting teachers in the classrooms, and making sure we have the adequate staff in all our facilities for the beginning of school,"explained Ashley Gasperson, MCD Digital Communications Director.

Computers and assistance will be available on registration day, and those who have misplaced their Snapcode may have to contact the school during business hours to have a code re-issued.

Britton says parents of students who will be enrolled in Child Development, Kindergarten, or First grade are asked to attend registration on August 1 if their children will be riding the bus. Their attendance at registration will allow the school to validate students' bus stops and distribute bus identification tags.
