Town hall meetings to review hurricane evacuation plans

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Do you Know Your Zone? In the event of a hurricane, do you know your evacuation route and area?

To help prepare residents for a potential hurricane evacuation, Horry County Emergency management is hosting several town hall meetings over the next several weeks on the Know Your Zone hurricane evacuation zones.

The dates, times and locations of these meetings is as follows:

South Strand Areas - August 6 at 7:00 p.m.

South Strand Recreation, 9650 Scipio Lane, Myrtle Beach

Bucksport Area - August 13 at 6:00 p.m.

James R. Frazier Community Center, 1370 Bucksport Road, Conway

Carolina Forest Area-August 21 at 6 p.m.

Carolina Forest Recreation Center, 2254 Carolina Forest Boulevard, Myrtle Beach

WMBF News meteorologist Jessica Ryan will be broadcasting live from the Know Your Zone Town Hall at South Strand Recreation on August 6 - stop by to meet her!

There are three hurricane evacuation zones, which are based on surge inundation, and not the category of the storm, EMD officials stated.

"It will be important for every resident to know if they live in a hurricane evacuation zone and what to do when asked to leave," officials stated in a news release.
