Myrtle Beach man claims winning $400,000 lottery ticket

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A Myrtle Beach man was $400,020 in the Palmetto Cash 5 lottery.

COLUMBIA, SC (July 30, 2013) – A Myrtle Beach family man has played his own sentimental mix of lottery numbers for years, and Saturday evening they finally came in.

"I'm going to Disney World," he said.

The winner and his wife are euphoric over the $400,000 Palmetto Cash 5 win.

The numbers 1, 17, 22, 25 and 33 are a combination of the husband's birth date, high school football and basketball jersey numbers, and his favorite holiday, Christmas.

"He is always so optimistic about everything," his wife said telling how he thought every ticket he bought would be the one. "I'm thrilled for him."

And if beating the steep odds of 1 in more than 4 million to win the $400,000 wasn't enough, he surprised his wife with an additional $20 by matching three numbers of his choosing on a different line on the ticket.

He was smart to spend the extra $1 for Power-Up, which multiplied his $100,005 prize to $400,020 when a "four" was drawn.

For selling the claimed ticket, Kangaroo Express #3070 in Myrtle Beach received a commission of $4,000.20.

To date, lottery play has resulted in more than $3.1 billion transferred to support education.
