Waccamaw to fall below flood stage this weekend

Posted: Updated:

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Although a flood warning remains in effect for the Waccamaw River in Conway until Sunday afternoon, the river is expected to fall below flood stage this weekend. The river reached 13.1 feet at its peak on July 13- flood stage is 11.0 feet.

As of 8:15 p.m. Friday, the river was at 11.4 feet and is expected to fall below flood stage by Sunday morning. Minor flooding is occurring now, but the water has receded significantly over the past couple of weeks. Areas near Lees Landing, Pitch Landing, Savannah Bluff and the Riverfront South communities are still experiencing minor flooding.

No significant rain is currently in the forecast for the area- a good thing for residents along the Waccamaw, as water levels should continue to decline to normal levels through the foreseeable future.
