Owner cited for leaving dog in hot car while at Golden Corral

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A 30-year-old Myrtle Beach woman was cited by Myrtle Beach Police Sunday for leaving her dog in her car while she was at Golden Corral, according to a police report.

An officer responded to a report of a dog locked in a car at the 800 block of Oak Forest Lane Sunday afternoon. The officer found a female black pit bull/Labrador mix in the car, with the windows cracked a couple of inches, and no water available, according to the MBPD police report. The dog was panting heavily with "syrupy drool."

The temperature outside was 84 degrees with a heat index of 89 degrees; the officer unlocked the vehicle and measured a 105-degree temperature inside the vehicle, the report states. The dog was placed the officer's air conditioned truck.

The owner came out after several minutes and was issued a citation for an abandoned/mistreated animal, according to the report. She paid the bond amount and a court date was given. The dog was returned to the owner.
