Crowd gathers around shooting crime scene in N. Charleston

NORTH CHARLESTON (WCSC) -

The parking lot near Cycle Gear was filled with onlookers of a triple murder scene Saturday afternoon.  Police say earlier, there was an altercation in the parking lot outside before gun shots rang out.

"All I can say is I pray for the ones that are deceased and pray for their families," said Ricky Brown.

Police blocked off Dorchester Road for two hours after the shooting that left three dead, and one injured. However, the crime scene attracted crowds of people who pulled over and lined the streets.

"I was wondering what was going on and I found out what took place and you know it's really sad," said Brown.

The reaction from onlookers was fearful. Betty, an area resident said the thought of becoming a victim of a violent crime has put her in a constant state of fear.

"I am kind of timid because you don't know who to trust, but I got god on my side."

While investigators combed the area inside and outside of Cycle Gear for clues, the North Charleston Fire Department took aerial pictures of the crime scene. Brown wonders if detectives will get to the bottom of what happened.

"You know it all depends on how much the public cooperates. They have to have information from the public."

While police were on the scene digging for answers, people were waiting in the rain alongside the crime scene waiting for new information. Some said, they can't understand why another shooting has happened in their community.

"It was ridiculous and senseless. There was no reason for it." said Natasha. She chose to keep her last name private.

"It's terrible I know how the mothers must feel. The people who are doing the shooting, they need to stop it," said Betty.

Some say the heat might have played a role in today's shootings.

"The robberies and the murders and things like that are when the heat comes I am not sure if it's because that's when we are gathering," said Natasha.

As for those who live in this community Betty says she hopes people will find more positive ways to use guns.

"Go to a rifle range. Go to Afghanistan and help the Americans out over there; they need plenty of help besides killing each other over hear."
