Upstate comes together to promote 107 days of nonviolence

Dozens came out to the Peace Center in Greenville Wednesday evening to pray and take the pledge to commit to 107 days of nonviolence.

It's an initiative that has been in the works for months, and parents think it's a smart move.

"I think it's great that the community is coming together to support one another, and it goes back to the saying it takes a village to raise a child," said parent Tori Knuckles.

The pledge encourages everyone to be kind, embrace nonviolence and focus. It's a message that hit home for many participants. City leaders also said they believe the prayer vigil was the right way to start.

"We feel that bring people together to pray is a good way to start the healing process," said Greenville City Council Member Lillian Fleming.
