CONWAY, SC (WMBF) – Coastal Carolina commencement speaker US Sen. Tim Scott gave advice to the 739 CCU students who walked across the stage at CCU's spring commencement ceremony Saturday morning.
"Sometimes in life, you must fail forward," Sen. Scott said. "Failure only becomes fatal when you quit. To maximize your potential, you have to exit your comfort zone."
Sen. Scott received the honorary degree Doctor of Public Service at the ceremony, along with SC Sen. Raymond Cleary III.
Seven students received the President's Award for Academic Achievement, which recognizes students with the highest cumulative grade point averages. All who received the award had a perfect 4.0 grade point average, graduating summa cum laude.
The recipients were: Alexander Beck, a history major of Glen Allen, VA; Amber Ciemniewski, a political science major Conway; Katie Clark, a music major from Galivants Ferry; Justin Creel, a biology major of Greenwell Springs, LA; Sydni Donellan, an education major of Conway; Courtney Elliton, a marine science major of Huntingtown, MD; and Lindsey Weintraub, an accounting major of Myrtle Beach.
On August 10, CCU will hold its first summer commencement for students completing their degrees over the summer.
