Spencer Williams was given up for adoption at 5 months old. His loving adoptive parents were honest with him from the beginning.

But as he grew, "Started wondering, who my mom was, who my dad was and the whole,'Why did they give me up?'" he said. "I wanted those questions answered."

And the big questions:

"Why wasn't I good enough? Why wasn't I worth it?"

The search was on.

"I went through the phone book," he said. "I called every number I could. I ended up on and they had a message board."

He posted his plea.

Time passed. He spent time in the Army and got married. But his mother was not to be found.

Unbeknownst to Williams, she was looking for him as well.

"I never thought I'd find him because all my avenues were dead ends," said Janice Lobaugh.

Until Lobaugh's daughter found Williams' message at The rest fell into place and Lobaugh made the call of a lifetime.

"I was on my way back to Afghanistan," said Williams. "And I got a phone call from my mom."

Stunned and elated, he flew to the Middle East.  But three weeks ago, Williams returned and Lobaugh flew in from her home in Alaska.

And the answer to Williams' questions? Lobaugh remembers the same question 30 years ago.

"She said, Janice, what do you want for your son?  And I said, I want him to have a good life.  I want him to be loved.  I don't want him to go through hell."

"After all these years, wondering," said Williams.  "I didn't know if you knew."
