DARLINGTON, SC (WMBF) - While thousands of NASCAR fans will fill the grandstands at Darlington Raceway this weekend, right now some of them are spending time at what they describe as another Darlington landmark. That is the Raceway Grill just outside of turn two at Darlington Raceway.

"It's probably been 15 years," said Charlie Brock who stopped by the small restaurant with some of his Joe Gibbs Racing teammates.

Brock said the Raceway Grill is a popular spot for people in the racing world to drop in and grab a bite to eat. He said the diner is more than just a restaurant.

"It has memorabilia, it has history, and it brings back memories," Brock added.

Another customer in Raceway Grill today was Ronnie Bryant. He said he had been a customer at the restaurant for more than 50 years.

"A friend of mine told me when I was young that the hamburgers and hamburger steaks were great," Bryant said. "So I've been coming ever since eating hamburgers, hamburger steaks, and a steak every once in a while."

Bryant said he eats at the restaurant at least once a week. He said he wishes NASCAR would return to Darlington more often also.

"It means a lot to this community, and everybody looks forward to it," Bryant said.  "I'm sorry that they took one of the races away but I wish they would bring another one back."
