HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - The family and friends of Amber Berbiglia are hosting another vigil in her memory as police continue to search for her killer.
The vigil will be held on Friday, June 28 at 6 p.m. at the site where her body was found on Old Sanders Road under the Robert Edge Parkway overpass in Little River.
Her family has offered $5,000 in additional to the police reward for information on her death, totaling $6,000 for information leading to an arrest.
Two of Berbiglia's close friends, Karen Ritchie and Cathy Lee Sellers said Berbiglia wasn't the type of person who had enemies. Ritchie and Sellers said they hope the additional reward money will bring someone forward who knows what happened to Berbiglia the afternoon of May 3.
"Just please if anybody knows anything, the smallest little detail I beg you to do the right thing please," Ritchie said.
Sellers said this tragedy should impact the whole community.
"Just put yourself in this situation. Picture yourself as me, going out with your best friend the night before all this happened excited for her wedding, excited for her future and then all the sudden she's just gone. Imagine that happening to one of you or your friends… or your daughter or your sister," Sellers said.
Berbiglia's body was found on the afternoon of May 3 underneath the Robert Edge Parkway Bridge and Old Sanders Road, just 1.6 miles down from the Time Warner Cable store where she was last seen at about 1:30 p.m.
Sergeant Robert Kegler with the Horry County Police Department said as of Friday June 7, the investigation was still active. Sgt. Kegler said there is no suspect information at this time. Sgt. Kegler said tips came into the police department after Berbiglia's death, but the police department hasn't received any new tips in a couple of weeks.
"Detectives are revisiting potential witnesses, revisiting the scene, recanvassing the area, trying to discover if there's anything they may have missed," Sgt. Kegler said in May.
"The family is really really hurting, and this is a tragic loss, not only for the family and the community, but all of her friends, and we're just looking for someone anyone to come forward," Berbiglia Family Friend John O'Neill said.
Sgt. Kegler said the community's help is needed in this case. He said no tip is too small, and it could potentially lead to the arrest of the person, or persons, responsible.
"As far as what she was doing there, who she was there with, those questions remain unanswered at this point. And, our detectives are gonna continue to work until they find those answers out," Sgt. Kegler said.
Exactly one week after Berbiglia's body was found, the family gathered at the crime scene on Sandridge Road at 6 p.m. Friday, May 10. In the meantime, Horry County Police continued to look for her killer.
Police crews rushed to the location just off Robert Edge Parkway around 4:30 p.m. on May 3rd, where the parkway crosses over Old Sanders Road.
Deputy Coroner Tony Hendrick says the victim was 23-year-old Amber Marie Berbiglia from the North Myrtle Beach/Little River area. The cause of her death was blunt force trauma to her head.
It was originally believed that she was fatally shot, but Horry County Police spokesman Sgt. Robert Kegler released a statement saying that after further investigation, it was not a shooting.
WMBF News crews that arrived on the scene shortly after police to learn the body was spotted by a passerby who called 911.
Sgt. Kegler confirmed that Berbiglia's vehicle was towed away from the crime scene.
A funeral was held for Amber Berbiglia with family and friends on Tuesday, May 7 at Lee Funeral Home. A prayer service was held that evening.
The Horry County Police are asking that anyone who saw something out of place that afternoon, or has any information that they feel may be beneficial to this investigation to call dispatch at 843-248-1520 and ask to speak to a Violent Crimes Detective.
Crime Stoppers of the Lowcountry is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest in the ongoing Amber Berbiglia murder investigation, in addition to the $5,000 offered by friends and family of Berbiglia. If you have information leading to the identity of a suspect and arrest, you are urged to contact them:
