FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) - A new mother is facing serious charges after police say she spent three hours in a nightclub while her child waited in the car.

Police were called by someone concerned that there was an infant locked in a car with no adult Friday morning outside of Club Taboo on Second Loop Road in Florence.

The 10-month-old child was in a car seat, and the car was not warm, but the child had soiled its clothes, says Florence Police spokesman Major Carlos Raines.

The mother of the child was located inside in the club, and told police her cousin was supposed to be outside with the infant. She then claimed she just went inside to charge her phone for a few minutes.

The mother, 28-year-old Jessica Tidwell of Darlington, was taken into custody and booked into the Florence County Detention Center on Friday, May 3. She has been charged with unlawful neglect of a child.

Employees at the club told police Tidwell had arrived three hours earlier. The Department of Social Services was contacted, and they turned the child over to a family member.
