The feedback from most people flying in and out of Myrtle Beach is… Wow! With the new airport now open visitors are greeted with a state of the art, impressive facility that provides a fantastic first impression.
It was a long, frustrating process getting there; especially the fighting between Myrtle Beach and Horry County, but the result is certainly impressive. Not only is the new terminal a significant improvement over the old airport, but the entire area is seeing growth. Harrelson Boulevard is now a major east – west connector, Whispering Pines golf course is upgrading, and Bausch Linnemann is setting up a new corporate headquarters.
The passenger count has also risen the past two months; and those numbers should continue to grow. WestJet Airlines is the latest carrier to offer service into Myrtle Beach, bringing more Canadian guests to the area.
The new airport has plenty of room to grow and should serve our area well for many, many years. It's nice to see what was only a vision a few years ago is now reality. And for a community that thrives on tourism, it offers an improved version of a most important message: Welcome to Myrtle Beach.
