Man arrested for attacking woman outside of library

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A dispute turned violent in Myrtle Beach on Wednesday, when a 20-year-old male was arrested for attacking a female outside of Chapin Library.

A police report states the officer arrived at the scene and met with the offender, Roger Brown, who stated he was trying to get his phone from the victim's purse when she sprayed him with pepper spray. The victim stated that Brown was trying to take her purse from her when she sprayed him. She said that he then grabbed both of her arms, and she sprayed him again.

Brown said that he did not do anything wrong and only wanted his cell phone from her purse.

A witness was on the scene, who said that she saw Brown grab the victims' arms and drag her through Chapin Park. She stated that the victim was yelling for Brown to let her go, and then the victim pepper-sprayed him. The witness went to help the victim and dialed 911.

According to the police report, Brown gave the same statement a week prior when they had similar dealings with the same people.

Brown was arrested for misdemeanor simple assault.
