CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - The polls closed at 7 p.m. Tuesday night, and when the votes were tallied, the unofficial election results revealed Mark Lazarus will be Horry County Council's new chairman.
Mark Lazarus, winner of the Republican runoff in March, ran unopposed by Democrats, but one person did decide to run as a write-in candidate.
According to the unofficial election results on the Horry County Election website, Lazarus received 1,991 votes, while the write-in candidate received 191. Lazarus only needed 50 percent to win the seat, he ended up receiving 91.25 percent of the votes.
Lazarus will fill the Horry County Council chair vacated by Tom Rice when he was elected to represent South Carolina's 7th Congressional District in the U.S. House.
