MBACC is celebrating 75 years, and looking toward the future

MBACC Annual Meeting

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Tuesday was an all day festivity for the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, as members celebrated the 75 year anniversary of the chamber.

The annual meeting was held at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center to update members on the initiatives set forth.

Spokesperson for the chamber Nora Battle said every year, a survey goes out to all of the 2,600 members on what the organization can do to improve.

"One of the things that consistently comes back is the promotion of tourism, and legislature's priorities, making sure the issues that affect the business community are taken care of," explained Battle concerning the survey.

Ken Harbin is a real estate agent, and chamber member since 1996. He said the biggest opportunity the chamber offers him is the chance to network one-on-one.

"I just ran into someone a few minutes ago who worked for a local insurance company we dealt with 3 or 4 dozen times and never met her- just met her," said Harbin, who admitted he would also like the chamber to continue to focus on networking opportunities.

Harbin said he feels the chamber would benefit its members in the future better if it provided more instruction on using social media to help serve customers.

Battle added the chamber will also be focusing on continuing its small business development within the community in the year to come.

Members of the chamber will be renewing their membership in June.
